Govt offices in CCpur not secured; tension still prevails

Most Government office buildings located in Churachandpur town still remain vulnerable to mob attacks as tension continued to prevail for the fifth consecutive day on Friday.
The town has been under siege since August 31 when an angry crowd stormed the residential complexes of legislators including a minister.
Despite the State Government's claim on having controlled the tension, protests triggered by the introduction and passing of The Protection of Manipur Peoples' Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Land Revenues & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015 on August 31 by the Manipur Legislative Assembly were still conspicuous as many protesters were seen on the streets of Churachandpur town.

It may be mentioned that eight persons had been killed in the protests while many have been reported injured.
A source on Friday morning said an angry crowd came out and stormed a government office and a school - Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Churachandpur and tried to set them on fire.
However, timely intervention by women folks prevented the mob from setting the school on fire.
Normal life in Churachandpur town has been paralyzed as offices, shops and business establishment were all shut on Friday.
Vehicles stayed off the roads.
Women folks representing various localities continued to stage peaceful sit-in protest at several places defying 144 CrPC promulgated in the town by the District Magistrate.
It may be recalled that fours government office buildings had already been set on fire.
The Zonal Educational Office (ZEO) and Social Welfare Office (SWO) were set ablaze on September 2 while Sub Divisional Office (SDO) and District Employment Exchange office were torched on September 3 .
The fire destroyed several important office documents, said the source.
Meanwhile, when a team of Manipur Hill Journalist Union (MHJU) visited at Churachandpur town, no state security forces were seen deployed on the streets of the town except for some BSF personnel.
It may be mentioned that top police officers including Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) LM Khaute (L&O) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Zone II) L Kailun had rushed to Churachandpur town to review the security situation earlier.
