Imphal, September 04 2015 :
The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), Manipur and Rongmei Naga Council (RNC), Manipur have in the strongest term condemned the indiscriminate firing and brutal killings of civilian protesters at Churachandpur by the State forces on Aug 31 and Sept 1 .
In a joint statement, LNC and RNC condemned the unbridled actions and the excesses of the State forces during the days of turmoil at Ccpur.
Pointing out that rubber bullets were used against protesters in Imphal and live bullets against protesters in Churachandpur, the two bodies wanted to know any secret agenda of the State Govt against the tribals of Manipur.
"The Bills, popularly known as 'anti-tribal Bills' passed on Aug 31 by the State Assembly need proper review to suit the greater interest of all communities of Manipur," it said.
It also categorically asked the State Govt which one is more importantpeople of four districts + one life and people of five districts + eight lives.
The two bodies said that the resolutions adopted by the Manipur Assembly on Aug 31 at the backdrop of the Naga Peace Accord with the Govt of India are totally against the interest of the Manipur Nagas and are seen as an attempt to suppress the Nagas of Manipur.
Nagas of Manipur are not only disrespected but their existence in Manipur is threatened.
This attitude of the State Govt is time and again hurting the sentiment of the Manipur Nagas, it added.
Expressing deep shock at the demise of eight tribal citizens of Churachandpur, the two bodies also shared the sorrows and pain of the bereaved families.
Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur (FATYCM) vehemently condemned the killing of 8 persons by the Manipur police.
R Asing, president of FATYCM in a statement said that firing protesters with live bullets is unprecedented and clearly shows that the Govt of Manipur is sectarian and ethnocentric.
The federation also condemned the submissive 20 tribal MLAs who keep on pleading that the tribal rights are not infringed upon even when their constitutional rights are defied.
It is also questionable why the State Govt is denying the citizens' right to express through internet in the wake of Ccpur incident while no such imposition took place with the death of Robinhood, it said.
