BJP leaders of Thangmeiband A/C would have been certainly peeved when the BJP leadership took into its fold a disqualified MLA who was elected on some other party's ticket, said MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom.
An emergency meeting of the Thangmeiband Block Youth Congress Committee was held today at the Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai residence of Jyotin Waikhom.
By-election to Thangmeiband A/C and re-constitution of the youth Congress committee were the main agenda of the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Jyotin Waikhom who would be fighting the by-election on Congress ticket said that the MLA elected from Thangmeiband A/C was disqualified before the end of his tenure for one hopping from one group to another within the political party on whose ticket he was elected.
It would not be right to blame the Speaker or the Congress party for disqualification of the particular MLA and people of Thangmeiband A/C are well aware of this fact.
The disqualified MLA's decision to join BJP and fight the by-election on BJP ticket must have been dissented by senior BJP leaders of Thangmeiband A/C .
Distribution of forged application forms for a housing scheme amounting to Rs five lakh by the disqualified MLA and his supporters has created confusion among the people.
Educated youth cannot believe that a housing scheme would be sanctioned for Thangmeiband A/C just because there is a BJP Government at the Centre, Jyotin said.
Even if any such scheme is sanctioned, it would come through the State Government and the scheme would be for poor people who cannot build houses.
Informing that MLA Local Area Development Fund has been hiked to Rs one crore, Jyotin Waikhom accused the former MLA of violating all the guidelines for utilizing the fund.
The former MLA was black-topping residential gates of only those families who would vote for him.
Saying that the schedule for the by-election would be announced soon, Jyotin Waikhom stressed on the immense role of the youth Congress in ensuring victory of the Congress candidate.
