Imphal, January 27 2022:
The ruling Bharati-ya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to declare its candidates for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election scheduled on February 27 and March 3 though there was much speculation for the same on Thursday. With social media flooded with posts and party's rep-resentatives intimating that ticket announcement would be made at 2pm, large number of media persons gathered in front of state BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek, where security arrangement was also strengthened.
Consequent to the BJP parliamentary board meeting held in New Delhi on January 25 evening wherein finalisation of party's candidates for the upcom-ing state polls was discussed, speculation was rife that the ticket announcement would be made on Thursday.
However, no announcement was made till late evening.
Thus, the announcement of party candidates is being specu-lated to take place on Friday, yet again.
Meanwhile, a reliable source informed that 2/3 sitting MLAs could be dropped and three women candidates could figure in the list of can-didates and finalisation in this regard had been made already.
It also informed that ticket announcement would be made for all the 60 assem-bly constituencies and there would no phase-wise declara-tion as is the practice for other political parties which have so far declared their respective first list of candidates.
On the other hand, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda told The People's Chronicle that there is no certainty that ticket an-nouncement would be made on Thursday or Friday but it would be done very soon as nomination time is approaching.
There is no difference of opinions among state's party leaders about ticket distribu-tion and opinions about all the 60 seats have been placed to central leaders, who are to take the final decision, she said, adding that state unit will give update about tick-et distribution to the media as per the instruction of the central leaders.
According to Sharda, there is an understanding among all intending candidates of the party to extend support to the candidate selected by the central leaders and the party will solve all issues as per the nature of the prob-lems arising after ticket announcement.
Being a na-tional political party, ticket finalisation will be made by central leaders.
As such, even if there is difference of opin-ions between state and central leaders, whatever decided by the central leaders will be final, she said, adding that the party is working with unity like a family.
Regarding the list of can-didates uploaded on social media that went viral since Wednesday afternoon, A Sharda clarified that the list was not true and genuine list will be made by the central leaders only.
Mention may be made that the BJP parliamentary board meet held in New Delhi was attended by chief minister N Biren Singh and works min-ister Th Biswajit apart from A Sharda and the trio returned to the state on the same eve-ning in a chartered flight after submitting a list of probable candidates.
