Rain water harvesting projects on the anvil

Imphal, February 14 2018:
With a view to conserve rain water for use during lean season, the State Government has been working to take up rain water harvesting projects in the five hill districts of the State.
Rain water harvesting projects would be taken up in Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong at two places each.
The total estimated cost is Rs 20 crore at the rate of Rs 2 crore per project, informed a source.
The projects would be funded by the Ministry of Finance under one-time special assistance scheme and they would be implemented by the Minor Irrigation Department.
Five rain water harvesting projects would be taken up in the first phase followed by another five in the second phase.
Altogether 10 such projects would be taken up within two years.
For the first phase, an amount of Rs 10 crore has been earmarked in the plan outlay for 2017-18.An equal amount has been incorporated in the sectorial allocation of the annual development plan for taking up five other water harvesting projects in the second phase.
The work advisory board of the State Plan has already given approval to the five projects which would be taken up in the first phase.
The places where rain water harvesting projects would be taken up in the first phase are Tamei (Tamenglong district), Nungshai Chiru (Kangpokpi district), Mantri Pantha (Chandel district), Ramrei (Kamjong district) and Val Veng Lamka (Churachandpur).
The Government has also set a target of completing all these five projects by March 31 this year.
