Save Thoubal River gaining momentum

Thoubal, February 14 2018: Save thoubal river, a mass movement that calls for a tight regulation from the Government to check the artificial contamination of the river water, which kicked off yesterday has gained momentum.

The river has been muddy since the past 1 or two years due to human interference and other issues.

Demanding rapid actions from the Government people of Thoubal district today staged a sit-in protest at various places.

Mankind Service Foundation Moijing organised a mass sit-in protest at Moijing Awang Leikai.

Youth Development Organisation Thoudam with Meira Paibi too staged a sit-in protest to save the river at Thoudam Leishangthem Community Hall.

Keibung Welfare Association also staged its protest at Keibung Community Hall.

Bharat Swabhiman Trust and Patanjali Yoga Samiti Thoubal Ningombam, Nonggangkhong and Thoubal Mayai Leirak Branch too staged a mass sit-in protest at Ningombam Lakshmi Bazar.

Social Welfare Association with people of Thoubal Achouba organised a sit-in protest at Thoubal Sekpi Khongnagkhong.

Thoubal River Conservation Committee is the main driving force behind the 'Save Thoubal river' movement.

Earlier club organisations had demanded a tight regulation to control sand mining from the river.

Thoubal river is an ecosystem which not only supports a large number population but also forms a part of the environment if not preserved will doom the ecological balance, said the committee.

The committee has appealed the Government and concerned authorities to look into the matter and come up with a solution to the pollution at the earliest.
