Imphal, February 14 2018:
Due preparations for the Manipur Paddy Land and Wetland Act 2014 are almost complete and there would be certain problems when all the structures built upon paddy lands after 2014 without changing the class of land are demolished under the Act, Revenue Minister Karam Shyam stated while discussing demands for grants in the State Assembly today.
Those people who thought that the Government would not enforce the Act effectively will now face a difficult situation.
The Government is also aware of the uproar that would be created by people when the Act is enforced in letter and spirit but the Act would be implemented for sure, Shyam stated.
Revenue Department has almost-completed collection of necessary data from the Indian Space and Research Organisation through the Manipur Remote Sensing Application Centre.
Entry of land data for the 16 districts of the State has been completed by 98 per cent while computerisation of land records has reached 50 per cent.
There were many lapses and loopholes in the works of Revenue Department but the whole department is being streamlined now.
DCs monitor directly when any error is detected in the process of computerisation of land records.
Land tax which was not revised for the past 40 years was reviewed recently and land tax for paddy fields has been hiked to Rs 100 per sangam.
As for the location of Kakching district headquarters, the State Government has not yet taken any decision, Shyam clarified.
