Imphal, February 14 2018:
Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has raised serious concerns regarding the coming Indian Science Congress which will be hosted by Manipur University as the constructions of the event venues inside the University have not even been completed yet.
Speaking to media persons at MUSU office inside MU, its president Mayanglambam Dayaman said that construction works on the venue for the 105th Indian Science Congress, which will be held from March 16 to 20, have not been completed till date, despite only around a month left for the event.
Expressing doubt regarding the success of the event, the president explained that the University authority, Registrar and officials, have taken up the charge for the organisation of the Science Congress but the Vice Chancellor of the University is often out of station and the Registrar and other officers seem unable to handle things efficiently leading to the delay in the preparation works for the event.
Even though the event is not that far off, the tender for the infrastructure development works seems to be in process, thus increasing doubt regarding the success of the event, he added.
Expressing desire for the Science Congress to be organised with great aplomb and grandeur, the MUSU president warned that if the event can be a big insult instead of bringing pride to the University, MUSU may even boycott the event instead of supporting it.
The president further condemned the whole process of organising the event, which seem to be forced just for the sake of hosting the event and for benefiting the pockets of few individuals, instead of bringing benefits and exposure for the University, its students and the State.
On the other hand, MUSU, along with the media persons also inspected the venue sites for the Indian Science Congress.
