4001.5657 kilograms of seized ganja and psychotropic drugs and substances, worth around Rs 1.5 crore, were set ablaze by Customs Division Imphal today at Nongmaiching foothill, Keirao Angourock, under Irilbung police station.
The destruction of seized ganja and drug items was carried out under the supervision of Joint Commissioner, CGST, MC Marndi, in the presence of DC, Customs Division Imphal, Gaikhonlung Panmei, Customs Division Imphal Superintendent (Disposal), P Roben, Narcotics Control Bureau Imphal Superintendent Bikash Kumar, Irilbung police station OC, Inspector L Amarnath Sharma and officials of State Pollution Control Board.
According to the officials of Customs Division Imphal, the huge number of ganja and psychotropic substances were destroyed after taking due permission from the Special Court ND&PS Manipur, in connection with 15 different cases under the ND &PS Act taken up by Customs Division Imphal.
Out of the 15 cases, 12 are of ganja weighing around 4001.5657 kgs (worth around Rs 1,29, 64,440) and three case of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances which include Hydrochloric acid and phosphorus chemical in powder/paste form, worth around Rs 36,26,555 from the year 1999 to 2016-17, the officials added.
State fire service personnel were also present during the destruction of the seized items today, to prevent spread of the blaze which was set by the Customs Division Imphal to destroy the substances.
