Villagers threaten indefinite bandh over land compensation

Villagers of Namronlung Gondaimei Khullak have threatened to impose indefinite bandh on Makhuam-Imphal road from February 16 midnight if the authority concerned fails to pay land compensation to the villagers affected by the railway line construction and recover the compensation amount allegedly siphoned off by two individuals.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of the village, Guangchalung Gangmei said that the Government acquired land belonging to around 350 villagers for construction of railway line in Tamenglong district.
He alleged that a land compensation amount of Rs 36 crore was given to two individuals by the DC Tamenglong without the Court's order.
He said that the total land compensation amount to be given to the 350 villagers is around Rs 42 crore.
He demanded the 36 crore land compensation amount be recovered and kept in the Government's account.
He also demanded the Government to provide the land compensation to the 350 villagers who are the genuine owners of the land acquired by the Government.
