Senapati body threatens blockade from Apr 28

Talui, April 25 2022:
Decrying non-release of the already sanctioned Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) fund by state government to local bodies, United Senapati Block Association, which is a member of All Manipur MGNREGA Implementing Agency Committee, has declared indefinite economic blockade along the Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal Jiribam national highways with effect from midnight of April 28 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Association convenor Hesho Lohro pointed out that the central government had already sanctioned a sum of Rs 230,02,00,000 for MGNREGS second instalment of first tranche of central assistance towards covering wage, material administrative component for the financial year 2021-22 .
The local bodies have been demanding the state government to release the sanctioned fund meant for them.
Moreover, they met Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Yumnam Khemchand on April 11 and RDNPR commissioner MH Khan in this regard, Hesho recalled, while lamenting that no positive actions have been taken up till now.
As such, indefinite economic blockade will be imposed from the midnight of April 28 if the government fails to release the pending money of the local bodies,
he cautioned.
