State sets two new Sainik Schools

The Government of India has approved the initiative of setting up 100 new Sainik schools that would offer classes from VI standard onwards in partnership with NGOs, private schools and state governments with two schools of Manipur also approved for affiliation to Sainik School.
Unlike the existing Sainik schools which are purely residential in nature, the newly approved Sainik schools can have day school or residential school arrangements.
These new Sainik schools, besides their affiliation to respective education boards, will function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society and will follow the rules and regulations of New Sainik Schools in partnership mode prescribed by the Society.
In addition to their regular affiliated board curriculum, they will be required to follow the Academic Plus curriculum, similar to that in existing Sainik schools which includes value-based curriculum and activities training in life skills, NCC and sports to develop the ethos of national spirit, indomitable courage, unfailing commitment to values of respect for country and society.
These schools will be run and managed by NGOs concerned, private, state government schools but the Government of India will provide an annual fee support to the students under New Sainik School pattern on merit-cum-means of up to 50 percent fee (subject to an upper limit of Rs 40,000 per student per annum) for up to 50 percent of class strength (subject to an upper limit of 50 students per class per annum) for the approved school.
Among the North Eastern states, Assam has been provisionally allotted four quotas of New Sainik School followed by Arunachal Pradesh with three schools while Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland have been allotted two schools each.
Another NE state Sikkim has been allotted one New Sainik School provisionally.
