Anganwadi workers and helpers staged protest against non-disbursal of their wages at Pheijaleitong community hall on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Thongju sector no 9 anganwadi worker Ph Prabha contended that the present wages given to Anganwadi workers and helpers are not in tune with the changing times.
Moreover, they were used in other works in addition to their normal duty.
During the 12th assembly election, they were utilised in election duty also.
They also took the responsibilities of administering polio drops to children by visiting centres and homes, she continued.
In addition to the meagre honorarium given, monthly entitlements/or 10 months of the workers and helpers have not been disbursed till date, Prabha pointed out, while adding that it has put additional burden on the already aggrieved workers.
Manipur CM and department concerned had also assured of increasing their wages, but their assurance is yet to be translated into action.
Drawing the attention of the government on the matter, she urged for releasing the pending honorarium at the earliest and to increase the honorarium amount.
