CSOs observe Zeliangrong Solidarity Day

Zeliangrong CSOs including Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) observed the 88th anniversary of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day (Chukthoibe, Chukthoibo, Chuksumei) at Longjang (Thangal) village in Noney district on Monday in re membrance of the solidarity pledge taken on April 1, 1934 at Tamenglong district headquarters by Zeliangrong forefathers from different parts of Zeliangrong territory.
In a joint release, Zeliangrong Civil Organizations ZCOs) stated that the reason behind choosing Longjang village as the programme venue for the 88th anniversary was to remember, pay respect and honour late Tingnampou Pamei who was one of the attendees of the great event and to uphold the legacy of those prominent leaders who stood strong for the unity of Zeliangrong people.
The programme started with lighting of candles by Longjang Village Customary Court chairman Khangluangai Pamei with ZYF (AMN) vice president Luikambou Newmai leading the function and ZYF (AMN) president M Lunglailung delivering the welcome address, it added.
Speaking on the occasion, ZB (AMN) Manipur president Poupoklung Kamei reminded the gathering of the importance of the solidarity pledge taken by the forefathers and urged all to honour the epochal event of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day to stay strong and united.
On the other hand, ZB (AMN) vice president Titus Kamei stated that in a community like Zeliangrong, which settles in several states under different administrative systems and rules of law, it is natural to see some differences of individual views and opinions from time to time.
However, differences of opinion or confusion presently emerging in Zeliangrong society which have been created by some people of vested interest is just like the "mist of the winter morning" which will disappear very soon with the fast pace development and progress in education, he observed.
The vice president also gave a clarion call to strive for resolving any misunderstanding among the Zeliangrong brothers.
It is high time to reconcile, uphold and rekindle the Solidarity Day pledge which was taken by the forefathers to remain intact and united, he said and urged the gathering to spread the message of love and unity among the Zeliangrong brothers.
The release also conveyed that the programme was attended by ZB (AMN) speaker Meidinlung Pamei, other ZCOs leaders, village elders, village authority members, women leaders, leaders of village youth clubs, well-wishers, etc.
