Imphal, April 04 2022:
Sawombung District Congress Committee, Imphal East staged a sit-in protest against the rising fuel prices at Yumnam Khunou on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines, Khundrakpam Block Con gress Committee secretary BK Nandeibam conveyed that the protest was staged in collaboration with Heingang, Khundrakpam and Lamlai Block Congress Committees and Mahila Committees.
He said that although BJP has been "preaching" about its double engine government, it has failed considerably especially with regard to the economy.
He continued: "BJP claims that the Covid-19 pandemic is responsible for the poor state of the economy and the rise in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.
But it must be noted that both the pandemic and the rise in crude oil prices are global issues.
Despite this, many countries lesser developed than India like Pakistan, Nepal, etc., are able to provide fuel to their citizens at affordable rates".
Contending that a responsible government is supposed to provide a stable life to its citizens, BK Nandeibam remarked that people can no longer afford to travel in public transport as the fares have been hiked due to the rising fuel prices.
Additionally, prices of daily essential items are also being hiked.
As such, he demanded the fuel prices across the country to be lowered immediately.
