Manipuri Language Development Committee (MLDC), Imphal has urged the National Translation Mission (NTM), CIIL to keep literary organisations of Manipur informed about the activities of the NTM and CIIL for the cause of Manipuri Language for further dissemination.
A statement issued by the president of Leihaothabam Sharatchandra informed that on learning that NTM, CIIL is organising a workshop on Glossary of Manipuri Literary Terms from September 7-16, 2009 at the Manipuri Department, MU, the MLDC had pointed out to the NTM that the selection of the resource persons wan not transparent as well as democratic.
On an appeal to add more competent and experienced resource persons from literary organisations in Manipur duly recognised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, the NTM, CIIL agreed to add two more resource persons.
The statement also conveyed that the MLDC had requested NTM to bring out the findings of the workshop for the public.
It further urged the to make available the information of the projects taken up by NTM, CIIL and the amount spent on them since the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution in 1992. MLDC also took exception to what ND Hodamba, a core consultant of NTM, CIIL wrote in a local daily on September 11 about the activities and facilities of the NTM, CIIL, who wrote as if he were the sole spokesman.
It pointed out that one resource person has also written on September 13 in the same local daily about the role of the NTM, CIIL for the development of Indian National Language in greater detail.
Observing all these, the MLDC wrote to the Head, NTM, CIIL to keep the literary organisations of Manipur aware of the NTM activities for the cause of Manipuri language for further dissemination to all concerned, the statement conveyed.
