Imphal, September 15, 2009:
Ceiling portion and fibre sheets erected on the wall flanks as preventive structure from rainfall, have been partially damaged after a fire broke out at the newly renovated multi-purpose hall of Officers' Club, Lamphelpat today.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 10.55 am today when construction works, related to laying steel frames for the lightning system of the interior area, were being carried out.
Under the financial provision of North Eastern Council, renovation/expansion works of the multi-purpose hall are in full swing so as to set-up two badminton courts and place same number of table tennis boards.
According to Fire Service Department sources, the inferno might have started from sparks of the welding machine which is being used to weld steel frames for the roof.
It is informed that plastic sheets are being used for the ceiling section.
There is no report of injury.
