The eight executives of All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) arrested by police yesterday evening were produced in the court of the duty magistrate, Imphal west and taken remand for 15 days into the police custody today.
With the eight executives of AMUCO, so far police have detained 26 leaders of different civil organizations in connection with the people agitations pressing chief minister, O Ibobi to resign from his post.
Five of them have been detained under NSA.
The eight executives, secretaries of different portfolios of the civil bodies were L Tompok, Th Dinesh, I Brojen, Sh Nando, Ch Koireng, H Soken, P Ramananda and Y Jiten were apprehended by the police who raided the office of the AMUCO at Kwakeithel, Imphal.
Their arrest is related with the ongoing people agitation spearheaded by the Apunba Lup pressing Okram Ibobi from the post of the chief minister after the alleged July 23 fake encounter that killed a former militant and a young pregnant housewife.
Police charged them of indulging in the activities which amount to breach the tranquility of the people and booked them under section 121/121 (1-A) of Indian Penal Code, 16/18/39 Unlawful (Prevention) Amendment Act and section 3 of Official Secret Act.
Singjamei police of Imphal west detained them in their custody after registering a case under FIR 178(9)09 of the PS and produced them in the court of duty magistrate this evening at about 4 pm with a prayer of 20 days remand in the police custody for interrogation.
Against the prayer for 20 day, the duty magistrate remanded them till September 29 for 15 days into the police custody.
In Manipur, people have been agitating demanding resignation of chief minister on moral ground taking responsibility of the July 23 shooting incident at crowded market place at Khwairamband Bazar, killing two persons-a former militant, Ch Sanjit and a seven month pregnant housewife, Th Rabina and wounded to five others which was exposed as fake encounter.
People are agitating against the fake encounter since first week of August even as government announced judicial probe into the incident.
