State Governor, Gurbachan Jagat today said if the present chaotic situation be ended and normalcy could be restored and work together, development in the state could be accelerated.
"If we just could restore normalcy and work together, not only would the process of development be accelerated, but also the fruits of development would reach all parts of the region, especially the interior areas," Jagat said speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebration function of Doordarshan organized by Doordarshan Kendra, Imphal at JN Dance Academy today.
The opening function of the celebration which state Governor Gurbachan Jagat graced as chief guest, state PHED minister, TN Haokip and state health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat attended as guest of honour and president respectively.
Manipur is blessed with nature's bountiful munificence consisting of abundant natural materials and manpower resources, he said adding that Doordarshan by dint of their topical and valuable programmes, would help in bringing about a change in the region.
Doordarshan has 119 transmitters in the north east.
Television studios have been established in the capital cities of the six north eastern states of Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh with additional TV centre in Tura in Garo Hills of Meghalaya.
Above this, all the transmitters in the north east relay a composite programme of 105 minutes originating from Guwahati which includes a news programme in English and a composite programme of interest to the people of all the North Eastern states.
Doordarshan is also implementing a scheme for telecasting on the National network and on the Metro Network specially commissioned programmes highlighting the cultural heritage of the people of the North East, the developmental activities and the challenges faced in this part of the country.
It is heartening to note that Doordarshan has given high priority to the development of TV services in the north east.
The hilly terrain in this part of the country makes it necessary to have a very large number of transmitters, Jagat who graced the function as chief guest said.
State health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat who presided over the function lauded the role of television in the region and said, "Television is becoming an educational institute".
It focus in all the fields, farmers get trained with latest technology of agriculture as doordarshan is telecasting farmers oriental programmes on daily basis apart from various programme which are beneficial to the students in their study, Parijat said.
Manipur tourism and public health engineering, TN Haopkip while lauding the effort of doordarshan in producing documentary films on arts and culture, tradition and changing biodiversity of the land, appealed the authority to produce a documentary exploring the tourism potential of the region.
The celebration function held at JN Dance Academy Hall was marked by entertainment items and folk dance staged by cultural groups of various communities of the state.
