Imphal, August 12 2010:
The last surviving member of the Territorial Council and former Minister Sinam Bijoy Singh, who was popularly known as Jiri Bijoy, passed away at his Keishamthong Laisom Leirak residence after a protracted illness at around 11.45 am today.
He was 88.From 1948 to 1979, Bijoy was elected consecutively 7 times including four times without contest from Jiribam AC.

He was also the vice chairman of the Territorial Council for three terms.
Later on, he was the Deputy Minister in-charge of PWD in the Territorial Assembly.
In the 1974 Assembly election, he was again elected from Jiribam and went on to become the Cabinet Minister in charge of Industries, Forest, Fisheries and Weights and Measures.
Over and above this, he was also the Opposition leader in the Assembly.
Bijoy was the last surviving member of the Territorial Council and is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
