Imphal, August 12 2010:
Students of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Imphal, who are boycotting classes to protest the non-sanctioning of funds for a study tour by the authorities, today locked the gates of the institute.
Social and cultural secretary of the student union of the ITI, N Leishemba said that even though provisions for a study tour for internal assessment are included in the curriculum of the course, the authorities failed to sanction funds for conducting the tour.
The academic session was completed on July 23 last but the much needed internal assessment tour which carries 100 marks is yet to be conducted.
The study tour is normally conducted before the commencement of the final exam but due to the bad law and order situation in the state, it was decided to conduct the tour after the final exams.
The exams have concluded.
The law and order was improved but the study tour could not be conducted as the authorities failed to release the funds, he said adding that they had set a deadline i.e.today (August 12) to ensure release of the fund but the authorities have failed to comply.
A class boycott stir has been started from today to protest the authorities' irresponsible attitude towards the demand of the students, he added.
