Ibotombi Khuman, convener of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS); Khaidem Mani, president of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA); Kh Tarunkumar, president of PYO; Prof N Joykumar, Manipur Uiversity and A Achouba, president of SYO attended the meeting as Presidium Members.
Addressing the gathering, Kh Tarunkumar stated that the failure to implement the ILP system in the State despite its urgent need in view of unrestraint influx of outsiders is mainly due to the lack of political will and differences amongst the politicians.
He pointed out that politicians have been using large numbers of outsiders as their vote bank in many constituencies including Jiribam where the number of its native residents has been already surpassed by outsiders.
As such, the non-locals in the sub-division have a larger role to play during the time of elections.
He maintained that the influx of Myanmarese nationals in Churachandpur district has been also increased manifold in absence of a system to check entry of outsiders.
Ibomtombi Khuman said that there has been a speculation amongst some people that non-locals residing in the State will be discriminated or they will be compelled to leave after the ILP system is implemented.
But this is not true at all.
The system will just monitor presence of non-locals and their motives of staying in the State.
He added that the ongoing demand for implementation of Inner Line permit System in the State is legitimate and reasonable under Indian Constitution.
Meanwhile, consolidating the ongoing public demand for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in the State, Kontha Women Social Reformation & Development Society along with Yaipha Sindam Naharol Club staged a sit-in-protest at Kontha Khabam Maning Leikai Community Hall today.
