Sports varsity at Yaithabi Loukol

The Central team, which had recently visited the State to survey land for the proposed Sports University, has expressed their desire to set up the university at Yaithabi Loukol in Thoubal district, under Kakching Police Station, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
The Chief Minister was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a children park and community hall at Kakching Makha Leikai today.
The park and community hall were constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 66 crore - Rs 36 lakh from Manipur Development Society, Rs 20 lakh from local area development fund of Kakching AC MLA Y Surchandra and Rs 10 lakh from Surchandra's pocket.
As Yaithabi Loukol is situated close to NH-102, which is likely to be upgraded to a Trans Asian Highway under India's Look East Policy and Kakching being a prime area for development, the Central team expressed their desire to set up the university at Yaithabi Loukol, O Ibobi said.

Saying that the State Government would provide adequate compensation to the affected land owners, the Chief Minister said that the evicted people would be rehabilitated to the west of NH-102 near the varsity if required.
He also urged the people of Kakching and adjoining areas to extend cooperation to the State Government in instituting the first Sports University of the country.
O Ibobi further announced that the Government is planning to set up an IIT between Kakching Khunuta Chingjin and Kakching Lamkhai and a timber park at Laipham Lotnung area.
MLA Y Surchandra was the president of the function while Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen, Kakching Block Congress Committee President Kshetri Ibohal, Kakching Municipal Council Chairperson Ksh Subadini and Vice President Y Nando attended the function as guests of honour.
The dignitaries were welcomed by the people of both hill and valley areas presenting cultural items in traditional attires.
