Imphal, August 24 2014:
With the closing of the western and northern gates of Kangla by the Kangla Fort Board, and as the king should not enter Kangla from the southern gate as per traditions, Manipur King Sanajaoba did not take part in the 67th commemoration of Malem Paphal Chingkhatpa held at Kangla complex here today.
On this day in 1947, Maharaj Bodhachandra of Manipur hoisted the traditional flag marking the end of alien religions in the kingdom.
The event has been noted in the history of the land as Malem Paphal Chingkhatpa.

Angered by the absence of the king of Manipur during the observance, a public meeting was held with Irengbam Lukhoi, Elangbam Ibohal and Sukham Maru Tombi attending as presidium members.
Among others, the meeting decided to pursue the court case against the naming of 'Kangla Laiphamlen' as a fort, saying the site should remain as a place of worship.
The meeting also reiterated its support to the demand for ILP system in Manipur to save the indigenous population of the state.
