Bengi, Charangpat ban entry of non-locals

A public discussion on 'the role of people in the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur' was held at Yairipok Bengi Arong Ningthou Laibung in Thoubal district on August 22 last.
The meeting resolved to ban the entry of non-locals without valid identification documents into Bengi area, while making it necessary for them to obtain permission from the local club and the Meira paibi of the area before entering the area.
It also decided to jointly urge the state government to implement the restrictive regime at the earliest and release the arrested ILP protesters without any conditions.
President of Bengi Leimarel Meira Paibee Association O.Ibeyaima Devi, social workers Tonjam Ibopishak Singh and Senjam Sanajaoba Singh were in the dais as Presidium members, while Advisor of MAPI Council and member of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Th.Manihar, and President N.Bimol attended as the resource persons during the meeting.
In the meeting which was organised jointly by Bengi Leimarel Meira Paibi Association and Bengi Youth Club, resource persons pointed out the reasons for the implementation of the ILP system in the state.
Meanwhile, another public meeting organised by Charangpat Apunba Meira Paibi Lup at the Community Hall of Charangpat Maning Leikai in Thoubal district yesterday resolved to ban the entry of non-locals into Charangpat and its adjoining areas without valid identifications.
The meeting, attended by resource persons B..MYaima and Th.Manihar of Joint Committee on Inner Line permit System, decided to make it mandatory for any outsider to take permission from local club and Meira paibi before their entry.
Besides demanding unconditional release of arrested ILP protesters by the government, the gathering also pledged to jointly support the ongoing movement.
During the meeting, Pradhan Lourembam Anita Devi of Charangpat gram panchayat, local Leaders Thongam Thoiba Singh, Thokchom Maimu Singh, Lourembam Pakpi Devi, Kharibam Surchandra Singh and Laishom Ibopishak Singh attended as presidium members.
