PM Modi likely to join poll campaign in Jan

With different political parties intensifying campaign activities for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also planning to join the election campaign in the state soon.
A reliable source said that PM Modi is on a tour of the five states, where elections will be held early next year, and trying to consolidate the party's votes by launching different projects or schemes.
His first target is Uttar Pradesh, which has maximum number of seats.
After completing poll campaigns in Gorakhpur, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Jhansi, Greater Noida and Balrampur, Modi is planning to visit four more places before December 28.He will be visiting Prayagraj on Tuesday.
While the exact date for visiting Imphal is not yet confirmed, the source said that PM Modi is planning to visit Imphal by January 5.He would be inaugurating some projects and lay foundation stone for some new projects during his visit.
The source further said that chief minister N Biren had attended a meeting of BJP chief ministers in Uttar Pradesh recently.
The meeting discussed mostly issues of poll bound states and strategies to ensure return of BJP governments in these states.
Biren requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Imphal within a short period to consolidate the party's vote and Modi accepted the proposal.
The source also said that PM Modi is likely to visit Imphal after the election commission announces the poll dates.
In the meantime, the number of intending candidates seeking BJP ticket is increasing in every constituency.
The party's leaders are facing a tough situation in bringing understanding among the ticket seekers so that there would be minimal impact on the party's vote bank when they declare their candidates.
Many of the intending candidates in the race for BJP ticket are retired government officers, who used to hold high ranking posts.
