The 8th Rajya Puruskar Ceremony of Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) was held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor of Manipur Dr Ashwani Kumar presented the Rajya Puruskar/Awards to 66 members of Manipur BSG for their outstanding performance and service.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashwani said that the guiding mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people and help build a better world.
The organization for Scouts and Guides has also contributed immensely towards strengthening friendship, amity, secularism and peace in the world.
The biggest strength of this organization is its non-political character and the voluntary nature of its membership.
The activities of Bharat Scouts and Guides must be spread out to every nook and corner of the State and the remotest parts and and most far-flung hill areas, he averred.

The Governor further said that even though the Scouts and Guides movement in Manipur started quite some time back, the membership is still not as per expectations.
There is an urgent need to increase the activities and membership manifold in the State.
The movement should be reached out more to schools, colleges and other educational institutions.
Manipur BSG should also work towards self-generation of funds through sponsorship and other means to meet the growing requirements, he added.
Dr Ashwani exhorted the members of Bharat Scouts and Guides to take their movement to newer heights and try to achieve the aims and objectives of the founder, Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell.
The award ceremony was also attended by President of Manipur State BSG P Saratchandra.
