22 more items added to border trade

In a significant move to boost Indo-Myanmar border trade, 22 more items have been added to the list of tradable commodities, thus increasing the number of items from 40 to 62 .
According to a highly placed source, the number of tradable commodities in Indo-Myanmar border trade was only 22 as per the public notice issued by the Government on April 10, 1995 .
The items were bamboo, betel nuts and leaves, chillies, coriander seeds, food items for local consumption, fresh vegetables, fruits, garlic, ginger, katha, minor forest products, mustard/rape seeds, onion, pulses and beans, reed broom, resin, roasted sunflower seeds, sesame, soybean, spices, tobacco and tomato.
Later, another public notice issued on November 7, 2008 added 18 more items thereby increasing the number of trade items to 40.The 18 items were agarbatti, bicycle's spare parts, blades, bulbs, cosmetics, cotton fabrics, fertilizers, imitation jewellery, insecticides, leather footwear, life saving drugs, menthol, mosquito coils, paints and varnishes, spices, stainless steel utensils, sugar, salt and X-ray & photo paper.
Further, the newly added 22 items in the Indo-Myanmar border trade are agricultural machineries/equipments, bicycle, bleaching powder, coal, edible oil, electrical & electric appliances, fabricated steel products, garments/readymade clothes, handloom and handicraft items, hardware/minor construction materials and electrical fitting, lime, medicines, milk powder, tea, beverages, motorcycles and motor cycle spare parts, electronic/musical instruments, stationery items, torch light, plastic items-water tank, buckets, chairs, plastic pipes and briefcase, rice, wheat, maize, millets & oats, scented tobacco, semi-precious stone, sewing machines, textile fabrics and three-wheelers/cars below 1000 cc.
However, the new items would be put into effect only after the issuance of a public notice, the source added.
