Imphal, December 13 2013 :
Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar today distributed Rajya Puraskar of the Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides to 66 volunteers including 22 girl volunteers during the 8th Governor Rally held at Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, the Governor said that even though the Scouts and Guides movement in Manipur started quite some time back, the membership is still not as per expectations.
There is an urgent need to increase the activities and memberships in the State, he added.
"When our population and resources are larger than some of our neighbouring States, then we should also have much larger membership.
I think we need to concentrate on improving our reach to schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the State.
Let us try to focus on young people to increase our long term impact", the Governor said.
Dr Ashwani Kumar said that although the State Government is providing some financial assistance to Manipur BSC, there are still much more requirements.
Self generation of funds through sponsorship and other means appears to be the immediate solution, he added.
The Governor also stressed on the need to make all out efforts to expand the activities of BSC to every nook and corner of the State and the remotest corners and the most far-flung hill areas.
Congratulating the award winners, the Governor said that the award was a true recognition of their performances and services.
The Governor also called on to take the young people of Manipur on the path of strengthening friendship, amity, secularism and peace through Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides President P Saratchandra was the president of the function.
