Centre allocates 93,007.95 quintal of rice under PMGKAY to state

Imphal, May 09 2021: Government of India has allocated 93007.95 quintals of rice to the state for the Month of May and June under the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) Phase III to provide additional rice of 5 kg per person free of cost to all the beneficiaries covered under NFSA (AAY & PHH) over and above NFSA allocation as per provisions of NFSA to ameliorate the hardships faced by the poor due to Covid Pandemic.

In a circular, CAF&PD Manipur director Ranjan Yum-nam stated that the scheme will benefit the Ration Card Holders and enlisted members while individuals not possessing valid Ration Card of NFSA will not be covered as per the guidelines of the scheme.

The allocation of rice will be over and above the normal NFSA allocation.

Quantity of rice allocated to each districts and number of beneficiaries are Jiribam (1509.50 quintal/30,190 beneficiaries), Kangpokpi (5346.05 quintal/1,06,921 beneficiaries), Bishnupur (9731.50 quintal/1,94,630 beneficiaries), Tengnoupal (1527.45 quintal/30,549 beneficiaries), Chandel (2110.20 quin-tal/42,204 beneficiaries), Pher-zawl (1105.10 quintal/22,102 beneficiaries), Churachandpur (5814 quintal/1,16,280 beneficiaries, Imphal East (14334.70 quintal/2,86,694 beneficiaries), Imphal West (19768.90 quintal/3,95,378 beneficiaries), Senapati (4752.20/95,044 beneficiaries), Noney (954.85 quintal/19,097 beneficiaries) Tamenglong (3333.80 quin-tal/66676 beneficiaries), Ka-kching (6512.95 quintal/130259 beneficiaries), Thoubal (11291.85 quintal/225837 beneficiaries), Ukhrul (3819.30/76386 beneficiaries and Kamjong (1095.60 quintal/21912 beneficiaries).

The circular further informed that the aforementioned allocation will be lifted by the district authorities concerned through the transport contractors appointed by CAF&PD Department, and shall be solely responsible for the safe transportation of the entire quantity of PMGKAY rice from FCI depot to respective Fair Price Shops of the districts concerned within the validity period whichever is earlier.

FPS owners may appropriately draw out distribution plans at the local/ground level in consultation with beneficiaries for distribution of rice under supervision of the DSOs concerned.

Social distancing norms such as at least six feet distance between beneficiaries should be maintained during the distribution process of PMGKAY and NFSA.

The beneficiaries should be encouraged to wear masks and use hand sanitizers, it also stated.

It is further informed that to ensure uninterrupted supply of food grains to the PDS beneficiaries all Fair Price Shops will distribute the food grains to the beneficiaries on all seven days of the week between 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm in larger public interest.

It also stated that under the existing system of PDS, DSO and Civil Supply Inspectors of CAF&PD shall conduct regular inspections of the shops to ensure that FPSs under their respective jurisdiction are opening as mandated.

All DSOs/ADs of CAF&PD shall take action against defaulting Fair Price Shops in accordance with rules in place.

Further, DSOs have been instructed to submit a daily monitoring report on lifting and distribution of NFSA and PMGKAY rice to the CAF&PD director.
