Man remanded to police custody in minor rape case

Ukhrul, May 09 2021:
A 56-year-old man was on Saturday remanded to five-day police custody in connection with rape of a minor in Kamjong district.
According to Ukhrul police, Antibus Ning-shen son of (L) Muba Ningshen of Kamjong district sexually assaulted an 11-year old girl hailing from a village in the same district on April 20, 2021 around 11 pm.
Earlier on Saturday, Antibus Ningshen was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ukhrul which recommended further remand of the accused in police custody till May 12.Police said that the accused allegedly committed the crime when the victim's parents were away and no elders were present in the house.
"Taking advantage of the parents' absence, the accused reportedly entered the victim's room where she was sleeping along with her younger sister and a cousin.
He gained access through a window and raped the minor," police said.
However, the victim child had remained quiet as the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she would tell anyone about the incident.
The matter only came to light when the younger sister of the victim revealed about the incident to her parents, police said.
On receipt of the report on May 5, a case under FIR No.2(5)2021 Women PS/Ukl U/s 6 POCSO Act & 506 IPC was registered and the police immediately swung into action.
The accused was then arrested from his house on the evening of the same day the case was registered, police said.
