Police check post set ablaze

Imphal, September 01 2013:
A police check post at Moreh was set blaze by a mob at around 11 today following the arrest of some suspected cadres of Pakan Revolutionary Army by Police Commandos in connection with an extortion case.
The police first picked up one Thamkhai Kipgen, s/o Thongloi Kipgen of Chikin Village yesterday.
However, a large number of women stormed at the Moreh Commando Post demanding release of the arrested person at around 8 pm yesterday.
Police blank fired several rounds to disperse the mob.
Later, some heavily armed men attacked the commandos' post.
In the follow up action, three more suspected cadres were arrested by the police.
Condemning the arrest, a large number of people blocked roads and closed down Moreh Bazar today.
The police check post was burned down during the agitation.
However, the issue was settled after convening a tripartite meeting.
