Imphal, September 01 2013:
Chairman of Khoupum chingmei Kabui village namely Nailin Kamei (45) s/o Gaidinglung Kamei has been admitted to RIMS Hospital with multiple bruises and a bullet wound on his left foot.
a villager told newspersons at the hospital today that Nailin Kamei was called out from a Namkaolong Part-II house last night by armed persons suspected to be activists of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), severely thrashed at a nearby school campus and abandoned there after firing a shot at his left foot.
The place of incident falls under Khoupum police station in Tamenglong district.
It is said that Nailin left home for Namkaolong Part-II at around 8 pm yesterday as he was supposed to leave for Imphal the next morning.
As Nailin was resting at the Namkaolong house, where his wife's elder sister leaves, unknown persons firing shots in the air descended from the hill range and entered the house.
Without much explanation the armed persons numbering about 20 took away Nailin to the Namkaolong Part-II Primary School campus, where he was beaten and shot on the left feet.
The armed persons returned to the house in the early hours today and informed family members to pick up the injured Nailin.
After bringing Nailin back to the house his relatives immediately arranged for his evacuation to RIMS Hospital where he was admitted at around 8 am today.
along with quoting attending doctors as saying that Nailin is out of danger, the villager speculated that certain disagreement existing at Khoupum Chingmei Kabui village might be the reason for the armed persons assaulting the village chairman.
