Forest Dept takes up action to save Langol

Imphal, May 29 2013:
Following an exclusive report published in Hueiyen Lanpao on illegal felling of trees at Langol Reserved Forest Area, the State Forest Department has initiated necessary action to check further felling of trees and causing damage to the landscape of this reserved forest area.
In this regard, a status report has been submitted by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (in-charge) Th Ibobi to the Additional Chief Secretary (Forests and Environment) .
The status report mentioned that an FIR has been lodged at Iroishemba Police Station for enquiry into the matter and arrest of culprits involved in the illegal activity.
The details about the number of damaged trees, illegal excavation sites within Langol Reserved Forest Area have also been collected from the Range Officers concerned, it said.
The report also mentioned that patrolling parties have been constituted to conduct regular patrolling at the Reserved Forests Area and check illegal activities in the future.
