CPI protest drive ends

In pursuit of 10 demands, Communist party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) Manipur unit today staged a sit-in-demonstration and public meeting in front of FCI godown, Sangaiprou.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the protest, CPI-M State Secretariat member Yumnam Ratan said today's agitation marked the end of the party's State campaign that commenced on May 15 .
Affirming that the protest was aimed at putting Manipur back on the development track, he informed that at the national level the campaign would wind up tomorrow.
The demands include implementation of land reforms policy; ensure 35 kgs rice to every family at Rs 2 per kg and weed out anomalies in PDS scheme; prohibit privatisation of health and education sectors; implement effective investment policy to generate more employment opportunities; check violence against women and enhance their representation in Parliament and State assemblies; repeal AFSPA 1958; deploy highway protection force; ensure friendly law and order situation; and uphold interest of the working class people.
Ratan also branded the UPA Government as corrupt and incompetent.
