Imphal, May 29 2013:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has claimed that law and order situation has improved considerably in the past one year with exception of existence of some anti-social groups in the State.
He was speaking at a Block level one-day political workers convention organised by Lamshang Block Congress Committee at the community hall of Lamdeng Awang Leikai.
With the co-operation from the general public, the State Government has been able to execute development works with the improvement of law and order condition in the past one year, he said.
Those youths who had earlier chosen the path of violence have now returned to the mainstream realising that there will be no development without peace and unity, he added.
With exception of the existence of some anti-social elements who want to become rich through illegal and short-cut means, it can be said that peace and normalcy have returned to a great extend in the State, Gaikhangam said.
Saying that drugs worth around Rs 50 lakh were seized yesterday as well, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government would leave no stone unturned in tracing the enemies of the society.
Maintaining that there are also some groups who are indulging in highway looting, Gaikhangam said that the main accused in the recent murder of a truck driver from Assam at Sapermeina area has been arrested with co-operation from the general public.
Speaking on the development works done by the Congress in the past 10 years, Gaikhangam said that train services will reach Imphal in 2016 .
Announcing that Tulihal Airport would be upgraded to an International airport in June or July this year, Gaikhangam said that the airport would become the largest airport in North East India.
Such achievement is going to be fulfilled only because the State has a Congress Government, he said and added that no other party can bring such progress.
Congress would return to power in UPA-III as well, he said and added that there is no hope for visionless Opposition parties which are plagued with family crisis.
He also urged the Opposition parties to be responsible and act as 'speed breakers' and not as 'potholes' on roads.
Lamshang AC MLA while speaking at the convention drew attention of the Deputy Chief Minister to enhance security in his AC as the area has become a safe place for ransom earners.
Other MPCC leaders also spoke at the convention.
