Street vendors of Khwai-ramband Keithel have urged all concerned people representatives to bring up the issues pertaining to street vendors' plights in the coming Monsoon session of the State Assembly.
Speaking to media persons today at the Manipur Press Club, president of Khwai-ramband Keithel Lambi Matai Potpham Phambi Lup, Potshangbam Shyamosakhi said the street vendors faced many difficulties in the face of frequent police personnel dispersing them and forbidding them to sell their things.
She said that to highlight their grievances, the street vendors formed the association today in a meeting.
It aimed at protecting the rights and interest of the street vendors and to fight for their dignity.
They also pledged to fight for enforcement of National Policy on Urban Street Vendor, 2009.They demanded discussion of issues pertaining to street vendors' plights in the coming Monsoon Assembly session and protection of their right to life against police atrocities.
Urging the concerned authority to accommodate street vendors on the first floor of the three Khwairamband Markets, the association also urged the authority to permit the street vendors to sell their things for at least 5/6 hours a day.
