Award for Sangai protection declared

As part of the state Government's initiative to protect and preserve the endangered brow-antlered deer species known in the local parlance as Sangai, the Wildlife Wing of Forest Department will present cash award and certificates to meritorious students settled in and around Keibul Lamjao national Park, the only natural habitat of the State animal.
The annual award starting this year will be conferred to the students residing on the periphery of the Park who achieve 60 percent aggregate mark in class X and class XII examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Council of Higher Secondary Education manipur as well as Central Board of Secondary Education.
An official statement issued by the Deputy Conservator of Forests (Parks & Sanctuary) L Joykumar Singh said that the awards to be presented from a corpus fund managed by a committee called 'Sangai Students' Merit Award Committee', is aimed at encouraging the students and promote people's participation in wildlife conservation.
In all 15 students each from Imphal West district, covering villages of Phoubakchao, Komlakhong, Konuma and Laphupat Tera, and Bishnupur district villages would be selected for the annual award.
The Bishnupur district villages include Khordak, Nongmaikhong, Ithai Wapokpi, Thanga Salam, Thanga Oinam, Thanga Khunsem, Thanga Moirangthem, Thanga Khoirom, Sagram, Keibul, Chingmei, Chandapur, Thanga Lawai and Kairenphabi.
Along with photostat copies of mark-sheets, the deserving students are informed to submit relevant details to the Committee within 4 pm of June 20 .
