National Nutrition Week

The observance of 31st National Nutrition Week being organized by Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India in collaboration with Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur began along with a one-day state level workshop on "Nutrition awareness - key to healthy nation" at Institute of Co-operative Management (ICM), Lamphel here today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Commissioner of Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur Letkhogin Haokip, IAS took serious note over the problem of malnutrition and called upon the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and the Supervisors in 42 blocks of Anganwadi in the state to step up imparting proper knowledge on balance diet.
He also stressed on the need for organizing similar programmes in the hill districts of the state.
Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department Shyama Devi, who attended the function as Guest of Honour, stated that the 37 years old Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) is for the wellbeing of children under 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
She assured that such awareness programmes would also be organized in all the districts in due course of time.
Kh Somorendro Singh, Director of ICM, who was another Guest of Honour of the function, said that good nutrition is needed for a good nation.
Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, Director of Mother and Child Care Hospital and Dr Shyam Kumar Laishram, Pediatrician of Imphal Hospital spoke as resource persons during the seminar.
