Imphal, September 01 2012:
Pledging continuous support to people with physical deformities, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai stated that Social Welfare Department will soon launch a scheme for proving financial support to able-bodied individuals who marry differently-abled persons.
Speaking at an awards distribution function organised by the Department at JN Manipur Dance Academy auditorium today for students of Government ideal Blind School, and Deaf and Mute School, Mirabai conveyed that the incentive amounting to Rs 30,000 would be paid to couples who complete three years of marriage.
Stating that today's awards are being given to boost morale of the differently-abled children/students, she prevailed upon the parents to ensure education of their children rather than confine them at the home owing to suffering from physical deformities.
MLA O Landhoni, who also attended the event, stressed on mandatory education of the differently-abled children for they too need to showcase and explore their own talents.
While awards were handed over to students who were successful in the matriculation examination this year, students of the two institutions presented cultural items on the occasion.
Among others, MLA RK Anand, Commissioner (Social Welfare) Letkhogin Haokip and Director (Social Welfare) G Seityabati were also present at the event.
