Attack on AMWJU president: 4 held

In connection with the grenade attack at the residence of AMWJU president A Mobi on August 11, four persons including under trial prisoner Nando of a KCP faction have been apprehended, Singjamei PS SDPO Th Vikramjit said.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Vikramjit said that as Nando's hand was suspected in the grenade attack, he was rearrested from Sajiwa Central Jail with due permission from the Imphal West CJM on August 14 .
Vikramjit assisted by two junior officers was investigating into the case as its IO .
In the course of the investigation, two mobile phone handsets used by Nando were recovered from inside the jail premises on August 16 .
Subsequently, one Md Akbar Khan (36) of Yairipok but staying at Hatta Golapati was pulled up on August 19.One hand grenade was seized from his possession and it was learnt that the grenade was given to him by Nando.

Ten days later, Thingbaijam Chittaranjan alias Ibochouba alias Tangba alias Kamcha (41) of Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai was also apprehended from his home on August 29 .
It was Chittaranjan who lobbed the hand grenade at Mobi's residence.
Another hand grenade was also recovered from his possession.
One Honda Activa used by the assailants on the particular day has also been seized, said SDPO Vikramjit.
The attack at the AMWJU president's house was a revenge strike for AMWJU's refusal to publish a press statement issued by a faction of MDF and the same faction has claimed responsibility for the attack via e-mail.
One Laishram Ibochouba alias Jachou (38) of Khangabok Makha Leikai who sent the particular e-mail was also pulled up yesterday.
The words written in the e-mail were sent by Nando via SMS.
One laptop and a mobile phone were also seized from Ibochouba.
He ran a printing press known as Sofia Press at Khangabok Lamlong Bazar.
While Nando and Akbar have been sent to judicial custody, Chittaranjan and Ibochouba are currently lodged in police custody.
Regarding recovery of mobile phone inside jail premises, further investigation was on, said the SDPO.
Notably, 32 year old Thokchom Nando of Khangabok Part II Lamlong Bazar was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Little Flower School student Lungnila Elizabeth in 2003 .
Nando who is known by the names of Nanao and Tabungba was re-arrested in 2009 in connection with the murder of contractor Krishnadas.
