Imphal, January 28 2023:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has stated that registration of an FIR against MPCC president K Meghachandra for merely demanding CBl probe into the Pallet drug haul case involving police personnel proves that N Biren Singh is the weakest chief minister in the history of Manipur.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Saturday, MPCC spokesperson Bhupenda Ningombam opined that the BJP government in the state is launching 'War on Drugs' mission but the war seems to exclude drug lords and so, the ongoing 'War on Drugs' mission would be successful if it is renamed 'War against Drug Lords' .
Recently, Kakching district police seized drugs worth crores of rupees at Pallet from a commando team returning from Moreh.
It would not be fair for the state home department to investigate into the Pallel
drug haul case involving personnel of the own department and such probes would not be able to bring out owner of the seized drugs.
Truth about the case and justice could be de livered if CBI conducts investigation of the drug haul case.
Accordingly, MPCC president K Meghachandra demanded CBl probe into the Pallel drug haul case.
Merely for demanding CBl probe into the case, an FIR has been registered against MPCC president and INC candidate from Kakching AC in 2022 elec tion Kh Kenedy, Bhupenda said.
While terming registration of FIR against state Congress leaders including MPCC president as suppression of freedom of speech, Bhupenda said that the BJP government has been misusing its machineries to suppress democratic voices of opposition and such acts have clearly showcased that N Biren is the weakest CM in the political history of Manipur.
Following registration of FIR against him for merely demanding CBI probe into the Pallel drug haul case, the MPCC president is now barred from speaking to the public.
This shows that there is no democracy in Manipur but Congress party will fight together with the people to save democracy and restore democratic rights of the people, he said.
Regarding sacking of the five police person ' nel involved in the Pallel drug haul case, the MPCC spokesperson said that there is official order for termination of the personnel and the termination order, if any, could be quashed by the court on technical ground in case the personnel challenge it legally.
