Rookie BJP candidate ousts Gaikhangam

Imphal, March 10 2022:
Congress heavyweight Gaikhangam has suffered defeat in Nungba assembly constituency with debutant Dinganglung Gangmei of BJP ending the seasoned politician's seven times electoral triumph from the seat.
The BJP candidate secured a total of 14,464 votes out of 25,142 votes polled in the constituency while Gaikhangam got 10,678 votes and 59 votes went to NOTA.
Number of rejected votes in the constituency was 63 .
Meanwhile, Naga People's Front (NPF) has retained the seat of 52-Tamei assembly constituency as the Front's Awangbow Newmai won with a margin of 1,698 votes against his nearest rival Z Kikhonbou Newmai of National People's Party (NPP).
Awangbow secured a total of 19643 votes while Z Kikhobou received 17,945 votes.
BJP candidate Wilubou Newmai could secure only 627 votes while INC candidate GN Kumuiteung (Dr Aku) got only 397 votes.
A total of 32 votes went to NOTA and two votes were rejected out of the total 38,612 votes polled in the constituency having a total of 42,045 voters.
The 53-Tamenglong seat went to Janghemlung Panmei of National People's Party (NPP).
He secured a total of 10,456 votes out of the total 30,531 votes polled.
BJP candidate Huri Golmei secured 9147 votes while NPF's Khangthuanang Panmei got 4,481 votes.
Another candidate Samuel Jendai of JDU got 6,447 votes while 122 votes went to NOTA.
A total of 107 votes got rejected in the constituency which has a total of 35,777 electors.
