Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with Gram Panchayats and Pani Samitis (water committees) across the country including Manipur on Jal Jeevan Mission through video conferencing.
The interactive programme for the state was organised by Public Health Engineering Department and Yarou Bamdiar Gram Panchayat, Patsoi CD Block, Imphal West as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Pointing put that the government is working consistently for bringing ease of living in the lives of people, PM Modi, during the interaction, expressed satisfaction that real change is happening in the Northeast.
He described Jal Jeevan Mission as a movement to empower women and rural India with Jan Bhagidari and active participation from everyone.
Agenda of the Gram Sabha and Samvad includes sensiti-sation of the Gram Panchayat VWSC and Gram Sabha that drinking water supply is essentially a service delivery and Jal Jeevan Mission a life time opportunity, to sensitise about the importance of drinking water resources, clean tap water, water conservation, water quality and the kind of water supply system suitable for the village.
People's campaign for formulation of Gram Panchayat development plan (GPDP) will be held from October 2, 2021 to January 31, 2022.PM Modi informed that the government has introduced the Jal Jeevan Mission mobile application to facilitate answer queries on the quality of tap water and its supply and the surveillance framework related to the scheme.
Stating that clean water and water scarcity are global issues, he urged the people of India to realise the importance of clean water.
He also launched Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh, where any individual, institution, corporate, be it hi India or abroad, can contribute to help provide tap water connection in every rural household, school, Anganwadi Centre, Ashramshala and other public institution.
In her presentation during the interaction programme, Pani Samiti chairperson Leit-anthem Sarojini Devi informed the Prime Minister that earlier water was available only after walking great distances or standing in long queues.
However, the situation has improved as many households have piped water.
She also informed that becoming ODF and fully covered village has led to better health in the village.
She further conveyed that regular testing of water quality is a norm in her village, and five women have been trained to do that.
During the interaction programme, Gram Panchayat members from five states, who participated in the interaction, thanked the Prime Minister for organising the interaction and lauded the decisive leadership in providing clean tap water connection to every household at Gram Panchayat areas under Jal Jeevan Mission.
Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Thokchom Kiran Kumar, Konthoujam A/C MLA S Rajen, SDO/BDO Samson Huidrom, PHED EE N Sanjit Kumar, Yarou Bamdiar Gram Panchayet members, Pani Samitis on Jal Jeevan Mission also attended the interaction as state's representatives.
It may be mentioned here that Yarou Bamdiar GP is the first special Gram Sabha and Samvad with Village Water Sanitation Committee (VWSCs) .
