Imphal, June 22 2026:
The Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council, has sharply criticised the BJP-led Centre and State Governments for their alleged indifference to Manipur's prolonged crisis, stating that the public no longer trusts the administration.
Addressing a joint press meet of the CPI State Council Political Affairs, All Manipur Nupi Marup, All Manipur Loumee Lup, All India Students Federation, and All India Youth Federation at Irawat Bhavan, BT Road, today, Political Affairs member RK Amusana said the Government has failed to outline any concrete plan to end the violence.
He questioned the relevance of a functioning State Assembly when MLAs who claim to represent the people have not stepped down despite the turmoil.
"The ongoing killings in the State are against democracy.
Where has the democratic practice of safeguarding people's lives and property gone?" he asked.
Amusana alleged that the Government's actions resemble moves to push Manipur towards civil war, calling it "unfortunate" .
He said the administration has failed to protect lives and property, and described the State Government as a "dummy Government" of the Centre.
Condemning efforts to mobilise people in the name of saving Manipur while violence continues, he warned such steps could spark civil war.
He urged authorities to act responsibly, adding that approaching the Supreme Court for public interest remains an option.
Noting that the crisis has persisted for over three years; Amusana said the situation is unprecedented in any Indian State and has caused severe hardship to all communities.
He demanded immediate restoration of democracy and protection of people's lives, stating that both Governments have failed in their fundamental duties.
