State Govt on ILP issue

Imphal, September 09 2014:
Stating that it is considering the issue of implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur as requests have been received from the various quarters, the Government of Manipur has appealed to the members of JCILPS not to take the law and order in their own hands and come for discussion on the issue.
In a statement, Dr Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur said that in connection with the isue of implementation of ILP system an All Political Party meeting was convened on August 6, 2014 and in spite of the invitation for discussion on issue of Inner Line Permit System from the chief minister, Manipur, to the convenors of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), their representatives failed to turn up for the said meeting on September 4, 2014 and September 9, 2014." .
The members of JCILPS should not take law and order in their own hand and should not send wrong signals to non-Manipuri people.
The act of the members of JCILPS is illegal and highly condemnable.
The members of JCILPS shall appreciate that many people from Manipur are living in other parts of the country for various purposes like education, employment, business etc, the act of JCILPS should not lead to tarnishing the image of the state, the statement pointed out.
Considering the efforts taken by the state government on the issue of Inner Line Permit System with central government and the difficulties faced by the people in calling bandhs, it is appealed to the members of JCILPS to restrain from such illegal activities and call off the agitation and bandhs.
It is once again appealed to come for discussion with government on the issue of implementation of ILPS in Manipur, the statement urged.
