CM flags off Imphal-Kohima road improvement work
Thadou Museum, KFA academy inaugurated; denizens commended for backing 'war against drugs' campaign

Chief minister N Biren Singh stated that Manipur is taking the path of development faster under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and affirmed that the development works taken up in various sectors by the state government is for the sake of the future generations.
Addressing the gathering at the flag-off programme for improvement of Imphal-Kohima Package-IV(B) and Package-V(A) Road of National Highway-02 held at Kalapahar in Kangpokpi district on Saturday, N Biren appreciated the MLAs of Kangpokpi district and civil society organisations for their cooperation and efforts in solving the issues of land compensation along the said highway.
Noting that different communities residing in the state have now started living together having respect for one another, he said that the government only wanted its citizens to abide by the laws of the land as the government is working under the ambit of the Indian Constitution and not imposing any law which is beyond its ambit.
Appealing to the public to extend cooperation to the government's development work to make the state more developed, the chief minister assured that those who are affected by the road improvement work would be compensated for their losses.
Speaking at the event, Textiles, Commerce & Industries minister Nemcha Kipgen informed that condition of the road would be improved with the road project and acknowledged the dedicated initiatives of chief minister N Biren to improve road connectivity across the state.
Mentioning that National Highway-02 is the lifeline for development of the state, she stressed the need for improvement of the highway.
She also urged the NHIDCL to maintain quality control while taking up the improvement work and also sought cooperation of the public for timely completion of the work.
Planning & Development Authority (PDA) chairman Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen, RO-Imphal NHIDCL executive director DS Chaudhary, Kangpokpi deputy commissioner Kengoo Zuringla and other officials also attended the flag-off programme.
Later, the chief minister formally opened the Thadou Heritage Museum at Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters Complex as well as the Residential Academy of Kuki Football Academy (KFA) at its campus at Keithelmanbi MC, both in Kangpokpi district.
The grand opening programme was also attended by minister Nemcha Kipgen, PDA chairman Rameshwor Meetei, Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar and KFA president Lamminthang Kipgen among others.
Speaking on the occasion, N Biren appreciated the enthusiastic spirit of the people of Kangpokpi district and for their support to the state government's 'War against Drugs' campaign.
Stating that the anti-drug movement is for the betterment of future generations, he expressed satisfaction that other alternative crops like fruits have been planted instead of poppy cultivation in various parts of the district.
The chief minister continued that there are many beautiful places in Kangpokpi district which could be developed into tourist sites.
He informed that the state government had already started construction of an amusement park with swimming pool and artificial football turf in the district.
He also made an announcement for construction of a hostel for the Kuki Football Academy and a football field at a suitable site.
Maintaining that the state government would always encourage efforts of various sports academies, N Biren announced that the government would make a provision to provide a grant of Rs 5 lakh every year to those sports clubs and academies which dedicatedly put effort to produce good players.
He continued that the government aims to make Manipur a peaceful and progressing state with cooperation among different communities and working together for development.
He further appreciated the Thadou community for their efforts and cooperation in maintaining peace in the state.
In her speech at the event, minister Nemcha Kipgen stated that sports help in keeping youths away from drug related activities and also maintain good health.
She continued that possessing game spirit and hard work are stepping stones to success, adding that Manipur, despite being small in areas, has many hard working sportspersons.
She then appreciated chief minister N Biren for his impartial treatment of different communities while taking up development works.
A cultural dance performed by Vaiphei Cultural Troupe and presentation of KFA theme song were part of the event.
