BJP retains Kangpokpi; loses Saitu, Saikul seats

Kangpokpi, March 10 2022:
BJP candidate Nemcha Kipgen won in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election to register her the third consecutive electoral victory from Kangpokpi assembly constituency.
She secured 14,412 votes out of 24,804 valid votes to retain her seat though the party had a dramatic loss in Saikul AC and Saitu AC.
Nemcha Kipgen also received 128 votes in Postal Ballots to beat her nearest rival JDU candidate Soshim Gurung with a margin of 5396 votes.
The JDU candidate secured 9016 votes including 40 postal ballot votes.
INC candidate in Kangpokpi AC Ngamkhohen Kipgen managed to secure only 1376 votes including 33 postal ballot votes.
On the other hand, there were 315 NOTA votes, 116 rejected votes and three tendered votes in Kangpokpi AC.
Nemcha Kipgen had won the 10th Assembly Election on MSCP ticket and the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election on BJP ticket.
Meanwhile, in Saikul AC, the newly formed Kuki Peoples' Alliance (KPA) candidate Kimneo Haokip Hangshing won the election by securing 6710 votes including 55 postal ballot votes out of 26,333 valid votes.
Her nearest rival Kenn Raikhan, an independent candidate, secured 5461 votes including 20 postal ballot votes.
Notably, BJP candidate Yamthong Haokip came in fifth position by securing only 2667 votes including 33 postal ballot votes while Independent candidate Chungkhokai Doungel and JDU candidate Ch Ajang Khongsai shared the third and fourth positions by securing 5107 votes and 4486 votes including 31 and 40 postal ballot votes respectively.
INC candidate Lhingkim Haokip came in the sixth position by getting 935 votes including 32 postal ballot votes while NPP candidate Seikholal Haokip ended at seventh position with 645 votes including eight postal ballot votes and RPI-A candidate Jamchinlen Lunkim finished last with 322 votes including two postal ballot votes.
There were 103 NOTA and 137 rejected votes out of the total 26,573 votes polled.
On the other hand, in Saitu AC, former minister Haokholet Kipgen, fighting as an independent candidate won the election by securing 12,456 votes including 39 postal ballot votes by beating his nearest rival Ngamthang Haokip of BJP who secured 9762 votes including 28 postal ballot votes with a margin of 2694 votes.
INC candidate Dr Lamtinthang Haokip secured the third position with 7133 votes including 116 postal ballot votes while NPP's K Lhouvum secured the fourth position with 6978 votes including 28 postal ballot votes.
While Independent candidate Th Sanglott Maram secured the fifth position with 2924 votes including seven postal ballot votes, JDU candidate L Johny Gangmei secured the last spot with 164 votes including 10 postal ballot votes.
There were 95 NOTA and 129 rejected votes out of 39,641 votes polled in Saitu AC.
The certificates of election to the winning candidates were handed over by the respective returning officers.
