Imphal, June 01 2018:
Informing that they have been turned into scapegoats and the academic atmosphere has been immensely disturbed as a result of the tussle between the school authorities, the students of Sika Higher Secondary School, Canchipur, demanded that the unrest in the school be resolved and the normal atmosphere be restored at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet held yesterday at Kwakeithel Girls High School, Kwakeithel, Longjam Lily, a class XII student of the school claimed that 19 students of the school were picked up by Singjamei police from the school premise and detained inside the police station till around 4 pm, after irate students vandalised some properties of the school in the morning at around 9.30 am.
She claimed that the unwanted incident resulted out of a longstanding tussle between the Founder Secretary and Chairman of the school.
She informed that the school has been taken care by one Longjam Anand of Lamding Cherapur, Wangjing, since November, 2012, after the Founder Secretary of the school, Konsam Surbala of Loklaobung, Imphal, had leased the school to Anand that same month and year.
Asserting that the school has improved a lot, both in terms of infrastructure and academicic after Anand took charge as the new Chairman, the student informed that a gloomy atmosphere has been prevailing in the school and unrest has been constantly in the minds of the students after they came to know that the Chairman was instructed to leave the school immediately on May 23, on the pretext that the lease had expired on May 20.She conveyed that there was also a commotion in the school on May 16 as the Founder Secretary opposed not to open admission for class XI for the session 2018-19.Alleging that the school classrooms were found locked yesterday when the students came to the school, Lily conceded that the irate students vandalised some properties of the school after a verbal scuffle broke out between students and some of the school authorities.
She also alleged that the students were forced to wait for a long time when they demanded to meet Surbala at the school and the later only arrived at the school only after the vandalism took place.
Later, Surbala called the police and the students were picked up and detained at Singjamei PS from 10 am to 4 pm, she added.
Asking all authorities concerned to settle the issue at the earliest to restore normalcy in the school, many students who were present at the press meet also demanded to be given their Transfer Certificates if the school authorities are not going to resolve the matter at the earliest.
AIMS President Rajesh Yumnam who also attended the press meet appealed both the conflicting groups of the school to arrive to an agreement at the earliest so that the unrest in the school atmosphere can be resolved.
