Locals demand street lamps and lights for RMS road

A sit in protest was organised by Kanglei ChanuraNupi Apunba Chaokhat Khongthang Lup at RIMS road today demanding instalments of street lights along RIMS road.
The Lup has warned to launch intense agitation if the State Government fails to set up street lights along the road, which is one of the crucial road stretch where several hospitals and health centres are located, at the earliest.
Secretary of the Lup, Thokchom Victoria claimed that the Govt has not taken up any steps to provide lights along the road coming from Nagamapal side.
She claimed that the locals have been contributing Rs 50 each every Sunday to provide lights along the said road.
The money are combined to and a lottery is conducted in which Rs 100 is deducted from the winner to buy necessary items for setting up equipments like electrical wirings and bulbs.
She further stated that a sum of Rs 520 is usually recharged for prepaid metre which lasts for around 13 days.
The locals have been continuing such temporary measures to lights the road, she further claimed.
The Lup, although it aims to continue the said lottery, asked how long the lottery will be able to provide lights for the people.
Many sick people and individuals with serious medical cases often use the said road to reach the hospitals and other medical institutions located along RIMS road.
The Lup's president further claimed that the road will get lights as long as the roads and departmental stores open while adding that light rays from houses are the only source of light along the road at night.
